NEUROMUSCULAR DENTISTRY

Myo-monitor Do you get headaches on a consistent basis? Do you blame it on stress? You are not alone. Using a neuromuscular approach we can alleviate years of pain and discomfort. What exactly is Neuromuscular Dentistry?

Neuromuscular Dentistry uses the relaxed position of the muscles of the head and neck to place the jaw into an optimal physiological position. The symptoms of neuromuscular disharmony are related to the TMJ, or temporomandibular joint. Many patients complain that their jaw pops and clicks. They often complain of pain around the joint. If you have these symptoms, then you are not alone. Over 75 million people at any one time suffer with TMJ. It is a chronic degenerative disease that may take years to develop. Most people do not have true TMJ problems. Unless trauma or injury is involved, pain from the joint comes from the surrounding muscles. If you treat the muscles and get them "relaxed", then the majority of symptoms will resolve.

You may be a candidate for Neuromuscular Dentistry if you experience any of the following symptoms on a regular basis:
· Headaches or migraines
· Pain or pressure in and about the eyes
· Sinus problems
· Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
· Congestion or stuffiness in the ears
· Pain in and around the jaws
· Stiffness or soreness in your neck, shoulders, or back
· Numbness in your fingertips
· Vertigo (dizziness)
· Habits of grinding and/or clenching your teeth

Following a comprehensive examination, the doctor may diagnose a malocclusion and recommend a treatment plan that will correct your bite accurately and conservatively.

To correct this malocclusion, Dr. Greenbaum may recommend the use of a dental orthotic or biteguard that can reposition the lower jaw and improve your bite problems. This in turn can cause muscles that are in spasm to relax and create a naturally comfortable position for your jaw. Dr. Greenbaum uses a myomonitor or tens unit to relax your muscles. This low frequency, comfortable electrical stimulation exercises your facial and jaw muscles to find your most relaxed state. To Top of Page

NEW Dental Digital X-rays

Dental Digital X-rays You can now get necessary care without unnecessary radiation. Many people are concerned about exposure to x-ray radiation. This new digital technology eliminates any worries of over exposure because it requires 70% less radiation than conventional film x-ray. With this we can reveal things films could not. We are able to spend more time treating and less time processing x-rays. The images are instantaneously put onto the computer screen for viewing, so the dental staff spends less time in the darkroom and more time discussing your health. The good news concerning the environment is that there are no films or chemicals, so we don't have to worry about disposing of hazardous processing waste. In addition your digital x-rays are covered under your basic x-ray benefits, so there is no reduction in your insurance benefits. To Top of Page

Dental Lasers

SOFT TISSUE
Now, high-tech soft tissue lasers are changing the way we practice dentistry. The Diolase ST laser can actually transform swollen gums, uneven gum lines and gummy smiles into a state of optimal health and beauty. Tissue harmony is attained quickly and painlessly with the dental laser. It can make all the difference between a good smile and an incredible smile. It is truly an amazing new and safe technology and has application into nearly every cosmetic and surgical procedure we do.

HARD TISSUE
We are now using a new technology that can detect small defects or holes in teeth before they become larger cavities. The technology is called Diagnodent which is a laser that can find hard-to-spot areas of tooth decay. A beam is aimed onto the tooth and this provides a decay reading that we use to determine if you have a cavity. This is an exciting new technique that is used in addition to x-rays and examination.
